Whoa! Tartan?

Didn't tartan used to look like this?

Just had to share these pics. of this shop I came across in Scotland. Have a closer look at their wares here.  I have to say that on one of the most grey, cold and rainy days I have experienced in a while, all ths bright tartan was indeed a welcome relief! Tartan shoes - who knew?

Vintage posters (and some wallpaper)

Just looking at some photos I have downloaded from my camera from the various places we have stayed in or visited. Here are a few gems - sublime vintage posters and taxidermy too! These poster were rather large and made such an impact on me........and some wallpaper I couldn't resist snapping. (every good blogger always has the camera at the ready, don't they?) All ended up slightly pear shaped today - we were caught in a major weather incident and our train was delayed by two hours due to flooding of the track. We arrived back sodden and exhausted so this lassy is ready for bed. More tomorrow when I have dried out and warmed up......

Two examples......

....................of why I can't 'do' beige. The top image makes me almost breathless in its bold use of blue and the pink and orange clash to perfection.
Thank you English Homes and Gardens for the inspiration.
Off to Scotland tomorrow.

Cool Cath.

I thought that I was pretty much 'over' the whole Cath Kidston thing until I saw her latest catalogue. Don't get me wrong, I love her quirky floral designs as much as the next person, but I was kinda over the whole shabby chic does English Rose thing a while ago. These gorgeous new wallpaper images have some sort of retro cool thing going on - what do you think? And as for the chair.....Cath whatever you have done to reinvent the wheel, it is spinning!

Wicked cool.......!

Any words needed? I think not.........ok, "wicked cool"*
(*catch phrase from my daughter everytime she sees something she loves. She said it the first time she saw a red London double decker bus and when she saw where Harry Potter was filmed. Yes, safe to say we are hearing this alot.
Ok and this very stunning sofa you ask? From the fabulous and iconic .......................

Can't wait to.......

...............visit Anthropologie's new London store! It seriously looks to die for in these pictures so I know I will not be disappointed in real life! (You don't have to know me too well to know that this shop is not the only one on my 'hit list') Happy week - end! Me, shopping, sightseeing, cooking, baby shower, shopping, sightseeing........you get the drift. You?

Delicious Miss Dahl.

(click on the photo to see this in all its white beauty...)
On picking up my first English newspaper in a good many years, I was interested to find the photo above and an article relating to it.  As you may or may not know, the gorgeous and voluptuous Sophie Dahl has just launched her first cook book and has a tv series to match! (we Aussies are bound to receive it at some stage....)

There has  a minor kerfuffle about 'her' kitchen from which she works when producing her culinary treats. Mainly, the point being is that the kitchen is actually not hers, but a rental. I mean, does it really matter?
I think am sure she can cook........
As long as she is producing the goods then all is ok isn't it! Especially when this all white spot looks so damm good. All is forgiven Sophie!
ps....thank you to you all for your bon voyages! Am so pleased to be over the long journey and relaxing into some more exciting stuff. Just in case any of you have a fear of flying......I 'know' someone  (a good friend of mine) who was terrified of going overseas because of the air travel. Well, turns out it was all in her head and while she/he doesn't relish the thought of flying every day, she actually managed to enjoy her flight. What's more, I've 'heard' she thought the A380, you know the huge double story plane that shouldn't even be able to get off the ground??, was superbly quiet and beautifully comfortable. Just like a gentle giant really......... oh yes....anyway, she is feeling very pleased with herself. he,he..

Pinkness from my desktop.

These beautiful pink inspired rooms are sitting on my desktop and I have been dying to use them. I have to admit to not knowing the source so while I am getting to my destination I will leave you to ponder them. Let me know if you can identify their origins and I will gladly credit them. Sorry! (I figure no -one will get too cross at me at 30,000 feet??!) Right....

Light reading.

Gosh, love the cover of this book and I am thinking I should have surely picked this up for some light reading for the plane. Yes, some people read novels, but me? Just a good ol' interior book has me perfectly sated. (oh... and numerous magazines too.) A great name too don't you think? You know how 'manners make a person' and 'cleanliness is next to Godliness'? Well, my new mantra is 'details do maketh a room'. A must buy - what do you think?

London Calling.......

I have spent the week end getting ready to embark on a trip to the other side of the world. This is what it feels like....literally! I travelled alot before I was married and had children, however since then my wanderlust has completely petered out and I have become entrenched in being at home. I know people travel all the time, but just not me! To me it seems well....foreign! I can travel the world on my laptop and I am totally content doing so. But now it is time for my children and I to venture out of our comfort zone and see the world! Well, just London and Scotland to be precise, but nevertheless a whole world away.

I have spied a few things while 'surfing' the world in my usual way.....

Fun prints to frame and remind you of where you have been or would like to go.

Beautiful Union Jack cushions to make you long for the mother country.

An elegant sofa no-one could miss,
Domino

and more subtle touches of red white and blue in the form of flags.

We will be away for almost 3 weeks but I hope to be posting regularly and keep you updated as to what I have been up to. Not flying until tomorrow but will be in a flap so in case you don't hear from me then, see you on the other side!
