I love books - I am happy to read anything really. Reading is reading and I happily ingest anything that comes my way, trashy or otherwise. It is the ultimate form of escapism.............so in my house the bookshelves aren't colour coded or perfectly styled, they are a real life mixture of content, shape and size. That's why these pics. hold a certain appeal.........
Genius use of hallway space.......particularly loving the shelves at the end!
That chair is a perfect spot to settle and read......
Kelly Wearstler even allows a bit of chaos to reign here!
And just because it's super duper fun and a totally BRILLIANT idea - a beach bookshelf!!!!
So I am not saying my bookshelves don't need a little tidying up now and then (in fact this is on the to -do list very soon....) but I think I have to stand a stand on the colour coding bit. What to you think - am I just taking the moral high ground?
To colour code or not - that is the question!
PS. Can I have another day to draw my Murchison Hume competition?
I missed a blogging day on Friday so need an extra day up my sleeve.......
I can? Great, thanks - tomorrow it is then!

Couldn't agree more! I just love books and bookshelves filled with hardbacks. A friend gave me a Kindle e-reader for Christmas, and while I enjoy the convenience, I have to say that I really miss adding real page-turners to my collection!
Hey there... Well I was never on the color coding team, untill I built a book shelve like the ones above, in my own home! I have, however, come to the conclusion that I like the order it brings to my little world ;)
SO... I am for color coding!
Gi for it, try it out!

I definitely a fan of colour-coded bookshelves. And I love that hallway shelving in the first photo! Great use of space!
Yay! I agree! Colour coding books, to me, is a very sad state of affairs. Sure the colours make fab patterns of colour swathes, but unless one memorises a book by its colour {ok, I know us designer types probably do! eeks!} then how would one ever find anything on the shelf?
Books create so much atmosphere, and a home's collection of book choices is such an insight into the personality of the people who live there.
Love the striped rug leading to the bookcase. Just like an arrow!
I too adore my books and shelter mags and would dearly love to invest in a custom made bespoke library!
But alas there are always too many other pressing expenses!
I am not sure about the colour coding...I prefer colour chaos!!
The beach + book = a little piece of heaven. I posted them on my blog too!
Love bookshelves, messy or otherwise! Cute images! Tracey xx
