A bedroom and a dilemma.

I re - pinned this seriously smart bedroom I saw while I was visting The Zhush. (as the tag line says "silly name, smart style")
Well, I think you can have whatever name you like when you come up with the goods!

Don't you think this bedroom is dreamy? I do! It's one of those unbeatable combos - orange and aqua. Its a bit like peaches and cream, bread and butter - it just works.
That lamp is a winner too. I saw one similar for sale on the MOS Marketplace in navy blue.....

which leads me to believe that you could easliy change this whole room by swappping the lamp with aforementioned blue one and adding in navy blankets. Such is the case with any room with good bones.

Now, on to my dilemma.
I need advice please.
I am keen to get a reader, an Ereader.
I thought the Kindle would be the answer, but discovered it is not back lit and its black and white.

I need colour in my life, and I need to read in the dead of night......in bed, in the dark.
Further investigation lead me to the Nook, by Barnes and Noble. this seems to fit all the criteria......

however it turns out there are problems actually accessing the books when you don't live in the US.
Can any one give me any advice or share what they have? I am trying to avoid an Ipad as I am pretty much up to date with all my Apple stuff and want something a bit more compact.
Is there a solution?
Any help, gratefully accepted.
Off on a school excursion today - wish me luck! ; )

Good morning Ms Kelly Green

Yes, granted the Kindle is only black and white but after some exhaustive research I came to the conclusion it's the only e-reader on the market that ticks all the boxes.

Any of its downsides (lack of colour, backlighting) are more than made up for by its long battery life, ease of use and download speed.

The 'no backlight, no colour' issue can be solved by purchasing - at the same time as you buy your Kindle - a leather cover that has a backlight included. These covers come in quite a few bright colours... I can recall at least pink, lime green, bright blue... and have the backlight included as an extendable light: you just pull it out of the top right hand corner of the cover and it will turn itself on.

I purchased mine via the Amazaon website. Just make sure you get the Australian electrical fitting (so you can charge it). I ordered it on the Friday night and it arrived by the Tuesday morning. Amazing. And I squealed with delight when I saw how delightfully teeny it was. It really is like having a paperpack in your handbag.

And finally, my very bookish Gen Y neice who received her Kindle gift has commented (okay, she's SMSed), many times over, often randomly, how totally, like, AWESOME her e-reader is.

Hope this helps.

Happy reading!

Hi Kelly,

I love using my Kindle despite it being not back lit. :) Options are portable pen lights or my good ol' bedside lamp. In this way, I feel like I am really reading a book and not through an electronic gadget. Back lit Ereaders tire our eyes more which could be unpleasant when you're reading. I agree, though, that I wish Kindle had other colour choices than black or white. :) About access to books, I am from Melbourne, and Kindle is not giving me problems on this. Make your choice quick so you can start your Ereading experience soon. :)

Hi there,

I bought my Kindle specifically because it wasn't backlit. It means that your eyes aren't reading off a computer screen, so the strain is just the same as reading a book. Once it's backlit and you go to something like an iPad, the eye strain is the same as a computer, so not good for lengthy reading periods especially if you're already on a computer for work purposes. You can get cool Kindle covers with an inbuilt light that pops up in the corner, which is perfect. And, there are very few problems with purchasing books on the Kindle.
There's my two cents worth.

Hi Kelly

I have a Kindle and I love it, it was a gift from my son and daughter in law. My husband was so impressed
he purchased a Kindle too. I would recommend spending the extra money
to purchase the Kindle cover that
has a built in light. Our Kindles are wireless, you can purchase a book
on Amazon and it arrives on your Kindle in a minute or two.
