School holidays.

I won't be changing my working schedule too much, but what little time I have free I will hopefully be scheduling a few activities for the school holidays. Postings may (will) be slighly sporadic over the next couple of weeks (yes, even more than they are now!!) but the good news is that I have every intention of ramping everything up after that! Yes, I will be back to commmenting, regular posting and all in all just back to normal business. 

But first, here's a taste of what we might get up to.  

I won't be doing this myself.......obviously! 

But eating and cooking are always on the menu....

And we may even take a road trip or two!

How I love a dining nook.....

Don't you? Call it what you like but when its combined with David Hicks fabric it is extra good.  

I have ordered this fabric for a client. We are one month in and another month to go before it arrives. I know good things take time....but it really is very frustrating. Well, thats my beef.  I will distract myself by looking at those cute pink chairs. Now they are an addition I wouldn't have thought of, but work surprisingly well! 

And on another note......my sweet baby slept through the night last night! Yippee! : )  

(of course I didn't 'cos I was waiting, waiting, waiting........)

Botanical brilliance.

Well, if you are looking for inspiration of the botanical kind look no further than this.........

I mean this is sheer joy for those of us who like a bit of foliage, and who don't mind allowing the ouside in to play. If you look carefully you will also spy those ikat curtains. I am not sure what I find more inspiring - the actual size and scale of that wonderful botany or its paring with the ikat. Best not to ponder too hard about these life altering questions and just focus on enjoying the moment.

So relaxing.

Let's talk about the week end first shall we. Beautiful sunny still days......

I got into my garden whilst the baby was in here. 

She drifted from being awake to asleep to listening to the birds and the lawn mower and just generally enjoying the sounds of Spring. Seriously, does the life of a baby get any more relaxing? 

So while she was here, 

My big boy was here. 

If you squint you can see him. He got his father's old wind surfer out of the garage and took off.......he has a life jacket on but it meant that the piece of garden I was working on got extra attention as I had to stay in the same spot to keep him in sight! 

The middle one did alot of bouncing on the trampoline and let's just say there was a lot of shampoo and water involved! I also had my ipod outside listening to the amazing sounds of Geoffrey Gurrumul. 

His new album is soothing beyond belief and his voice is wonderfully inspirng. Do yourself a favour  - upload it and listen to his wonder. 

It has struck me that it is September. (I have been cocooned in a baby/feeding phase) but it has just occured to me that that terrible time for decorators and designers is nigh. I don't want to mention those evil two words.......but if the words 'cut' and 'off' resonate with you then spring into action! 

Yes, fabric houses, showrooms and workrooms start calling it a day in about 8 weeks and if you want to action a plan for your home, don't delay! 

Don't say you weren't warned........even I am doing new cushions and blinds so as not to be disappointed! 

I still have spots left for new clients so contact me if you are wanting to spruce upyour home by Chr.......

(refuse to type that word yet!)

Quotable quotes.

Not very often do I take note of all the quotes I see, but occasionally I come across something that needs sharing! These two quotes appeared before me this week. 

  

This one was spotted at a friends house and appealed to young and old. ( well, particularly the young as any mention of underpants is sure to get a giggle....) 

....and this one, which was on the reverse of an invitation we received this week. 

Both profound and both oh so true.

All the trimmings.

It is amazing what a little trim, tassle or ribbon can bring to a curtain or cushion, isn't 'it? I mean the ordinary can instantly become out of the ordinary with a bit of carefully placed adornement. 

Case in point.....

Simple white curtains turn eye catchingly good when gussied up a bit! 

I have been doing a bit of trim work myself lately.........I have used these two in a recent project so will show you when it has all come together! 

The trick with trim is a less is more approach.......well that's just me but you don't need much for an exceptional result!

Old and new.

Just to illustrate that you really can't have one without the other, here is the perfect example.

Old table, new chairs. 

Vintage chandelier, light bright and white renovation. 

I think this is one of the big absolute 'MUSTS' of decorating 101. 

If you don't mix current and old finds, you run the risk of having a souless display home.

Sorry - but thats just the way it is. So get thrifting, scouring and fossicking for those old treasures and bring them inside. You never know what you might find to add the wow factor to your home.

Pretty in pink.....

in a 70's sort of way. 

Not that I am not keen on the 70's, but there is something about that doona cover that screams flares, patch pockets and kickers. (only those of you who are my era will understand this....) I think this is every little girls dream - a canopied 4 poster bed. I grew up with a four poster, and vividly remember pegging sheets all around it to create a secret haven . I mustn't have had such glamorous pink surroundings but there is something about that lampshade and doona cover that look eerily familiar.............

I 've found it!

Ok, this is a little off the decorating/design subject (ummm....well alot off it actually)  but here is the perfect cake for my daughter's first birthday. She may only be 4 weeks old but I like being organised! 

He, he.....Seriously, this is sooooo pretty so I will need to make sure I remember this one. 

Here is the full recipe if anyone wants to take up the challenge before me! Only problem is that is doesn't include any instructions for the flowers......any ideas would be much appreciated. I am thinking ones you can buy would be good, I don't have the patience to pipe a gazillion little flowers on to a cake (or a steady hand for that matter......) 

And while I am on the subject, well, off the subject.....YKWIM : )

I love Country Road's latest adverstising campaign celebrating their 10 year birthday in childen's clothing. (this is where the above recipe came from....)

Am loving that little girl and her brown hair.......nice the see a model, even if she is only a little one, who is not blonde. 

I have a soft spot for CR, and have stuck with them through all their ups and downs, as this is where I first started in the fabric/furniture business. Anyway, I would say that this Kate Spade-esque thing they have got going on is def an up!

Friday bargain!

While in my local discount shop yesterday picking up a few things I went along the fabric aisle (as I always do) in case something surprising leaps out at me. These two jumped out at me straight away! 

They were better in real life - and to make it more interesting, these two fabrics are printed hessian! Great for a beach house or playroom......and at only $8.99 a complete bargain! 

Head to Spotlight to have a look! Wish I had somewhere to use these two.............I really can't buy any more fabric. I have cupboards brimming (and that is after a clean out!)  with buys like this......well may just a metre for a couple of cushions.  ; )

Off the wall.......

Well, what I really mean is 'on the wall' !!! I just had to share these fantastic prints with you, which are a new venture for the very savvy Janette from My Sweet Prints fame.
