When one thing leads to another.

There are many advantages to living in an (very) old house. I am hard pressed to really think of too many at the moment apart from the good old one I always falls back on....and that is our house has "character ". It needs a lot of work, we have always know this, but last week end, when digging up some plants next to the house and noticing that the soil was getting wetter and wetter, well......
one thing led to another and.....
OK dont want to scare you with pictures but it means I can think about a new bathroom!
And boy have I been thinking about this one.

Its way too glamorous for what I need but that peacocky blue is superb. (Gotta love wallpaper in a bathroom (or anywhere for that matter...)
Ok - just so you can feel my pain.

Heres whats left of the guest bathroom.

....and here's my helper bailing water out that has been leaking from a pipe under our house for only about 20 years or so.  ; )

Don't you love it when.....

.....you get the baby dressed and she matches the soft furnishings?

Purely accidental but very pleasing to the eye!

A bright bed.

I am thinking about teenage girls bedding and decor at the moment. I think this strikes the perfect chord, don't you? Bright, fun yet classic enough to last for years.

pic from here...

Happy Monday!

Another reason why I can stay at home.

Well, I am trying to find good reasons for me to stay at home and that includes IN the actual country of Australia and this morning I have a doozy! Williams - Somoma are coming to Sydney!!! Amazing news isn't it? So no more whinging and whining about the cost of freight and how we cant get all the fabulous American homewares here 'cos now you will be able to in 2013.
It's not that far away...... and for all you Syndeysiders who will be able to pop in to The Exchange Buiding in Bondi Junction and treat yoursleves to the goodness that is Williams - Sonoma, Pottery Barn, Pottery Barn Kids and West Elm, I envy you!

So I won't even bother dusting off my suitcase (I can travel vicariously with A-M anyway)
and instead will stay home and sharpen my elbows for some serious retail pushing and shoving in 2013.
: )

Fabric Bundles.

I posted these lovely bundles of fabrics to a client last week, full of lovely patterns and colours. They are divided into room options, but could all work anywhere as I have a neutral base to work from.
Now for the hardest part........making the final choice and cutting down all these options to a mere 3!

I know.....tricky - right?

Working on....

...this Florence Broadhurst crane wallpaper for someone.
I wasn't sure about it at first but now I absolutely love it!
The blue in it is the most amazing peacocky colour and it just oozes style and sophistication!

I have it spread out on my dining table to see how it catches the light differently throughout the day.

Just trying to find the right velvet to go with it to pull the whole thing off.
See the background shimmering in the morning sun? You can see why I am now hooked.
I'll keep you posted as to how it all ends.
Have a good day!

Just orderded this......

...for one of my lovely clients.

Isn't it WILD.
Can't wait to see it in situ.

So, anytime I am gone for long periods from here you will know I am hard at work somewhere, hopefully doing someone a good deed by making a space more liveable, workable and of course more beautiful.

It's been busy, but good. I have almost finished an install on a job that has been going on for months now. Everything is looking fabulous (will post pics later...) and in attempting to go that extra mile for my client, I decided to personally steam the 'travelling creases' out of their newly arrived curtains. I must say if you own one of these steamers, they are so efficient  and the curtains came up a treat....
BUT.....
Somehow when moving it I managed to get water all over me and saturate myself to the skin. Not good on a cold day and not good when you have another client to visit.
Ahhh.....the occupational hazards! : )

Camilla from Cape Town....

So, in the midst of complete frustration regarding my blogging woes in the previous post, I received several delightful emails, all offering me good thoughts in the hope that all would be working satisfactorily again soon. This also popped in to my inbox.

Wow! ( I can hear you saying it....really I can!)

One of my readers and a fellow interior designer from Cape Town sent me these amazing pics of a job she had done using the very same aforementioned fabric! That bedhead is too good......
Thank you so much Camilla, I love that blogging and a sublime fabric can bring us like minded people together!
(sorry can't say what the fabric actually is whilst I am using it, but I am sure those of you 'in the know' know! )
Don' t get me started on those walls either....I am currently looking for the perfect blue grass cloth for a dining room and I think Camilla has used just the right tone!
Edited to add, Camilla has a blog too so go here to see more or her amazing work.

Ok so now I'm really drooling......

Love your work Camilla!

Floral frustration.

Something very weird just happened to me...I wrote and published a whole post only for it to end up somewhere in the www and not here! So, in the interest of the time I now have left up my sleeve for this post, I will just show you the pictures instead.

Ok - will quit while I am ahead as these are the only two fabric photos Blogger will let me upload.

I was going to say something about the amazingness that is this fabric and how much I am enjoying working on a scheme with my client.....blah blah  blah..........
Anyway, I find being technically challenged takes away all my creativity so will be back tomorrow!
: )

Marija's house.

Just when I was thinking about ditching the chiang mai in my bedroom (us fabric people like do this often as the pull of beautiful fabrics is too strong to keep one for too long!)..... I saw this.

I think it is sublime. I found this in one of my favourite reads, Chicago Home and Garden. It belongs in a house that is particulalry interesting to me as it belongs to the Stephens family. Long time blog readers will remember Marija Stephens from her own blog, Holding Court. Tragically, in 2010, Marija died in a car accident on her way back from a buying trip, leaving behind her husband and two young children. The blogging community felt very sad for a long time, so it was wonderful for me to open the pages of this magazine and see her finished house in all its glory and her family smiling at me from its pages.
Please go and see the rest of it if you get a chance........it is indeed a fitting tribute.
Oh, and I think my dragon will be lingering a little longer because of it.
