I am interested in bookshelves at the moment, especially ones flanking a fire place. I find these to be exactly to my liking. Not too overbearing and blending in with the overall wall. I know these

things may sound a little obvious,

but it's not until you actually have to think about them do they seem quite important. Of course, the overall look is enhanced by the star of the show, the stone fireplace.

What a restful and inviting room. I know beige is not normally my thing, but in this case I could certainly have my arm twisted!

I have been called many things but never this and am now relishing the title! One of my lovely readers finds my posts a distraction from her daily grind as she ploughs through documents I could not even begin to pronounce.

that Sanderson fabric is dated and fuddy, duddy. Well, I am here to tell you its not. I am so loving sourcing fabric for my clients at the moment and have come across some real gems. When I was looking for birds and branches and foliage for fabric, I stumbled across this....

I know! Pretty wild isn't it? And this from a company you would expect to see chintz and flowers from.

...that I have been lolling around on this bed whilst the week gets away from me, but I haven't. I have been busy, really I have. I was in the car for 6 hours today and came home to discover some emails on my computer that didn't quite make it to my ipad, and even more on my phone. I thought I had all my devices perfectly synced but it appears not. I am not going to worry tonight, it will have to be a morning job. (especially since I have had a glass of wine in the meantime)

So, I am taking to my bed. It seems like a good solution.

I will deal with the chaos I have created for myself in the morning.

ps....just LOOOOVE this bed above. Quite masculine but oh so inviting and a wonderfully easy look to achieve.

I am in a frenzy of wondering what our son is up to at school. I am trying not to ring him all the time as am trying to strike the right balance between over zealous mother and cool laid back one. I received a text yesterday....."Hi Mum, having a great time at school. Please can you put money on my phone ; D "

Sigh.......at least he is happy and said please.

Now, if I was in charge of the boarding house here's how I would want the dorms to look.

Missing out.

So I am kind of upset that I am missing out on the goodness in Sydney this year at Decoration and Design. What with a new baby in the house, and getting our boy off to boarding school life has been hectic. It is always a busy week on the school calendar........please can you think about that D & D people when you are planning ahead for next year? Anyway, I am sorry to have missed seeing these rugs in person......

They look almost edible......like sticks of candy.

It is also very lucky for me that the fabulous A - M has toured around the halls quite enough for both of us and shared all her beautiful finds to boot! thanks A - M, you are a star!

I also reeeeeaally wanted to listen to the infamous Marty Lawrence - Bullard speak. Once again, my trusty blogger friends saved the day! Thanks go to Mel at Georgica Pond who not only attended the seminar but got a signed book and photo! (green? just a tad....!)

A pinch and a punch.....

.....for the first day of the month. Yes, Feb already! Its a big day in our household today as we are sending our 13 year old off to boarding school!

I have been sewing name tapes and naming anything and everything. I have also been working on a little something to send him away with. (I won't tell you for how long but suffice to say it has been a work in progress for a considerable time....!)

Please excuse my sewing skills but here is a snippet of the doona cover I made cobbled together from his fathers old shirts. It was a fun job and the shirts are almost vintage! (taken from his fathers days at same boarding school!)

I am rather pleased with the result. It is had lots of extra re-inforcement to withstand the industrial treatment it is about to receive.

Anyway, wish us luck and I'll be back tomorrow. I have packed extra handerchiefs for today's goodbye.......it is the start of a whole new era and very exciting, although I will be pleased once we are at the end of the day! The anticipation has been killing....

(ETA - you can see how the check and stripes thing is not a girl's only obsession in our house....! he he...)

I always think that a large sitting room can almost always benefit from using the ol' back to back sofa trick.

It works particularly well when there is more than one entrance to the room, which a larger sitting room generally has! I wouldn't go doubling up willy nilly, as the proportion has to be right, but when it it works ........then whammy!

I love this room. It has my aesthetic to heart. Old and new, sisal matting, blue, pattern, block prints, large lamps, more blue and a touch of red. The seating works for several groups to be in the room and all have their own little spot.

And shall we talk about those large acorns in the corner...?

Happy Australia day to all.......It seems the prefect time to share with you this little Aussie gem I found at the local market last Saturday morning.

It was $5.

Possibly circa 1970's.

It is full of beautiful colours and shows our wonderful native Australian flora in all its glory. The navy blue frame and background make all the colours pop and I think it will look prefect in the bathroom.

Don't you just love a bargain....a $5 one at that?

Whatever you are up to today, have a good one.

(btw.....those that know me know the other reason we just couldn't resist this poster.........he he!)

I am back from the beach.

Yes, am finally back and in the midst of a swelteringly hot day I am unpacking and shaking sand out of all and sundry! I have had a large rodent in my pantry (and it will be very large now judging by the amount of packets of biscuits it has eaten......) and a snake in the laundry. Yes, that was gasp - worthy but we are setting a trap tonight and really, what better excuse to avoid the washing?

Anyway......here's to last week and this week and many more beyond.

Our beautiful beach path......

We had a lovely lazy time drinking coffees, (ok and a bit of wine....ummmmm and the odd G+T!)

walking, meeting new and old friends and just hanging around.

All the boys at the beack looked soooo gorgeous in these stunning beach shorts,

affectionately called 'JB's'.

They come in all manner of bright colours and can be worn on and off the beach.

They are quick drying and I swear these are the only shorts your big and little boys will ever need!

My other biggie for the summer? We couldn't leave the house without our Hammammas........

Highly absorbent, Turkish beach towels which are easily packed cos there is so little bulk to them.

So, I have tidied and cleaned and washed and replenished the fridge and pantry after all the Christmas feasting. We are only a few days away from our annual beach holiday which we are all eagerly looking forward to. Of course, this only make my lust for a beach house stronger.....in fact I came across this picture and this is exactly how I would like my beach kitchen to look.

Nothing fancy, schmancy just this......

I know....barely enough room to swing a cat but we would using the BBQ most of the time anyway right?

In fact, I could function very easliy in here.....my daily cake could be baked, lunchtime rolls made, and salad and spuds could all be done in here whilst the chops are sizzling away.

See?.......I am a girl of simple pleasures!

2011 has brought with it lots of adventures, trials and tribulations and surprises! Of course, the best surprise of 2011 is now a 5 month old baby girl and a complete delight, so you never know what is around the corner! Here's to another busy 2012 and a year of design, new clients, fun projects and wonderful surprises...although no more visits from the stork please!

I have baked and decorated the cake, steamed the pudding, wrapped pressies and have a fridge brimming (a better, more festive word than buldging...) with food. I have a ham the size of a small child and seafood on ice.

....what will you be up to?

I am cooking, cleaning, wrapping, posting, gardening and doing just about anything I need to, to make sure I am ready for the onslaught of Christmas and a house full of guests. Today it's mainly wrapping and posting and this year I have sneakily stored presents for the children 'off - site' so there is no chance of them 'accidently' finding anything they shouldn't. Oh, and this gorgeous pic reminded me of all the beds I have to make up for my visitors....

It's summery and fresh don't you think?

NEVER I HOPE! Cos this stands for 'when will my wallpaper wonder stop? Never, ever, ever!!!! Yippeee - I am going to love wallpaper all my life. I know that some things in life are never certain but you can bet your cotton socks on the fact that wallpaper and I will never split up.

Fortuitously, I only need to dabble in and out of the horse world 'cos I am far too sneezy and itchy to get too close. My children (luckily) prefer sports with a ball.

It would have to be one of my most favourite rooms...........

It is not over styled or full of the latest and greatest, trendiest 'must - haves'. It is full of treasures and I must say I would instantly feel right at home in here. The most coveted piece? You know it don't you?

Yes, the sofa. I think every room needs some kind of 'wow' factor......it doesn't have to be big, just pack a punch. I think this sofa has just knocked me out!

Having said that, I think that white walls and sisal are a KILLER combo........I am hoping to do this at home if I can convince my husband who has a thing for wool. ; )

Sorry I have been absent - don't know where the time goes! I am trying to finish up and few jobs as well as working on new ones so I suppose that's part of the excuse! I was looking for wardrobe inspiration for a client and found this great pic below.

It must be noted that this wardrobe owner and I have similar taste in clothing. Loving that dress and anyone with more than one stripy t in their closet is my kind gal! Well done Mrs. Ikea. Yep - the Swedes strike again! It is a room divider come wardrobe - exactly what I was trying to nut out for my client, only now I don't have to 'cos someone has already done it waaay better than me.

An old trick, but a goodie. Painting the walls and shelving the same to achieve a truly sophisticated room. Oh, and when your done, why not add a matching piece of furniture?

I went to school yesterday to help cook cakes for a music day being held today. So whilst I was beavering away, creaming brown sugar when it was meant to be the white one, and adding hazlenut meal when the recipe called for almond, (arghhh...you think I could read a recipe properly by now!) I turned around to see what everyone else was up to and saw this.......

......there really are no rules, especially when it comes to gallery walls. Well, if you want a more formal look then of course you need to get the tape measure out, but if you just want a fun eclectic mix of all your treasures then throw caution to the wind and 'hang away'!

As you can see, the shape, size, mount colour and frames are all different and this helps to create a wonderful mix. So gather all your mis - matched pictures and frames and get to it - you won't be disappointed!

A friend of mine is setting off this week on a trip of a lifetime! She and her husband and are taking their three small children all the way up the east coast of Australia on a boat! They hope to be gone for a year but it could be two if all is plain sailing. The boat has had a bit of a revamp....some paint and new marine upholstery for the seating area. I am about to drop these into her this morning............

I don't know about you but I seem to spend a good part of the week convincing my eldest to do his homework. It almost always ends in tears (his and mine!) and I am constantly looking for a solution to this weekly issue. So whilst I may not have come up with any firm answer to this ongoing dilemma, I was blown away to see this 'homework nook' on The Glow.

We have our own homework nook and while it doesn't look anything like this, (well ok, it's the kitchen table....so it reeeeaaally doesn't look anything like this!) I thought it was ok. Arghhhh............now I am contemplating beautiful wall papers and comfy mis - matched cushions! Who woudn't want to do their homwork here? What do you think - would it work for me or would I find my son lying down, head on one of said cushions with his feet up.......

Either way what a glamorous way to complete the task!

I was scrolling through some of my photos and realised I hadn't shared all these fabulous cushions I had made for a client with you. Of course, there is lots I don't share......not sure why, maybe because its a bit scary to do so, but I just love how this room has come together.

I will show you the rest of the room at another time, but this family sitting room had a complete makeover in the form of new sofa, rug, coffee table, antique console behind the sofa and of course the cushions.

It reflects the family who live here and is so bright and cheerful.

Please excuse the bad photography.....the light is all wrong but I still want to dive on that sofa and settle amongst all those cushions!

When you are on to a good thing, stick to it I say. This theory applies to lots of things in life. When I find that perfect fitting shoe, I buy two or that pair of jeans that stay just in the right spot when when you are bending over, then I go for it and make sure I own several. Heck, I have been using the same perfume, blush and lip gloss for years..............so here's yet another lovely bedroom to finish off the week. Just a bit more contempory but so comfortable and stylish.

And you know what pulls that simple colour palette together? Yes, the rug. Oh, to be able to sit on a sofa at the end of the bed and read - how very cilvilised indeedy.

(my mind is churning away now.......I do have a large bedroom waiting to be done and this could be just the thing......I might never want to come out!)

There are soooooo many beautiful fabrics to choose from on any given day when working with clients and sometimes deciding on something can take time. For me it is always a process of starting with a few choices and slowly whittling down

until I have that 'wow' factor. My advice to clients is always go with what you LOVE, in terms of fabric and wallpaper and then we end up building around that. So, no matter if it's a process of building up to a concept or refining down to one the result should always be the same!

Just thought you might like to see this beautiful stack of cushions I delivered to a customer last week.

There is plenty more to be added to complete the look for this room so I will be sure to keep you in the loop. Needlesss to say there is plenty of colour going on and lots of lovely texture in the form of fabrics and trim.

I picked all these beautiful and bright flowers from my garden this week end to fill the house with a bit of colour and fragrance. The roses are just starting to appear and I have plenty of buds ready to burst!

We are due for a sunny week and what what better way to start the Spring Racing Carnival? Melbourne is alive with racing fever and it is a fun time to get in on the action. It seems that 'brights' are latest trend in Spring fashions too............

Honestly....

.....I didn't realise that when I used the word "sporadic" in my last post, that it would mean "hardly ever"!! I

honestly didn't! School holidays are in full swing and we have gone away for a few days so I won't kid myself any more. I can now truthfully tell you that I won't be back until the hols are over.

In the meantime though I did what every self respecting blogger has done before me and baked the famed Rainbow cake for my sons 13th birthday!

It looks a bit pyscho 'cos I didn't have and couldn't find any gel colours, (must stock up though for the future cakes as I will most certainly be baking this every birthday now......!) so these are your average supermarket colours...er ummm.... ramped up a bit! ( code for tipped in half a bottle!) The result was luminous and very yummy!

I have to say that it didn't turn out nearly as well as Anna's but it was pretty good and there were gasps all round when we cut in to it!

I also used Meredith's recipe from here and it is a cracker. The cake is buttery and delicious and we smothered it in cream cheese icing.

So what do you give a 13 year old boy I hear you ask? Well, exactly what he wants if peace and harmony are a priority..............

A skateboard. Phew - one day it will be a car so I am only too happy to oblige when we are talking small wheels......

School holidays.

I won't be changing my working schedule too much, but what little time I have free I will hopefully be scheduling a few activities for the school holidays. Postings may (will) be slighly sporadic over the next couple of weeks (yes, even more than they are now!!) but the good news is that I have every intention of ramping everything up after that! Yes, I will be back to commmenting, regular posting and all in all just back to normal business.

But first, here's a taste of what we might get up to.

I won't be doing this myself.......obviously!

But eating and cooking are always on the menu....

And we may even take a road trip or two!

Don't you? Call it what you like but when its combined with David Hicks fabric it is extra good.

I have ordered this fabric for a client. We are one month in and another month to go before it arrives. I know good things take time....but it really is very frustrating. Well, thats my beef. I will distract myself by looking at those cute pink chairs. Now they are an addition I wouldn't have thought of, but work surprisingly well!

And on another note......my sweet baby slept through the night last night! Yippee! : )

(of course I didn't 'cos I was waiting, waiting, waiting........)

Well, if you are looking for inspiration of the botanical kind look no further than this.........

I mean this is sheer joy for those of us who like a bit of foliage, and who don't mind allowing the ouside in to play. If you look carefully you will also spy those ikat curtains. I am not sure what I find more inspiring - the actual size and scale of that wonderful botany or its paring with the ikat. Best not to ponder too hard about these life altering questions and just focus on enjoying the moment.

Let's talk about the week end first shall we. Beautiful sunny still days......

I got into my garden whilst the baby was in here.

She drifted from being awake to asleep to listening to the birds and the lawn mower and just generally enjoying the sounds of Spring. Seriously, does the life of a baby get any more relaxing?

So while she was here,

My big boy was here.

If you squint you can see him. He got his father's old wind surfer out of the garage and took off.......he has a life jacket on but it meant that the piece of garden I was working on got extra attention as I had to stay in the same spot to keep him in sight!

The middle one did alot of bouncing on the trampoline and let's just say there was a lot of shampoo and water involved! I also had my ipod outside listening to the amazing sounds of Geoffrey Gurrumul.

His new album is soothing beyond belief and his voice is wonderfully inspirng. Do yourself a favour - upload it and listen to his wonder.

It has struck me that it is September. (I have been cocooned in a baby/feeding phase) but it has just occured to me that that terrible time for decorators and designers is nigh. I don't want to mention those evil two words.......but if the words 'cut' and 'off' resonate with you then spring into action!

Yes, fabric houses, showrooms and workrooms start calling it a day in about 8 weeks and if you want to action a plan for your home, don't delay!

Don't say you weren't warned........even I am doing new cushions and blinds so as not to be disappointed!

It is amazing what a little trim, tassle or ribbon can bring to a curtain or cushion, isn't 'it? I mean the ordinary can instantly become out of the ordinary with a bit of carefully placed adornement.

Case in point.....

Simple white curtains turn eye catchingly good when gussied up a bit!

I have been doing a bit of trim work myself lately.........I have used these two in a recent project so will show you when it has all come together!

The trick with trim is a less is more approach.......well that's just me but you don't need much for an exceptional result!

I think this is one of the big absolute 'MUSTS' of decorating 101.

If you don't mix current and old finds, you run the risk of having a souless display home.

Sorry - but thats just the way it is. So get thrifting, scouring and fossicking for those old treasures and bring them inside. You never know what you might find to add the wow factor to your home.

in a 70's sort of way.

Not that I am not keen on the 70's, but there is something about that doona cover that screams flares, patch pockets and kickers. (only those of you who are my era will understand this....) I think this is every little girls dream - a canopied 4 poster bed. I grew up with a four poster, and vividly remember pegging sheets all around it to create a secret haven . I mustn't have had such glamorous pink surroundings but there is something about that lampshade and doona cover that look eerily familiar.............

Ok, this is a little off the decorating/design subject (ummm....well alot off it actually) but here is the perfect cake for my daughter's first birthday. She may only be 4 weeks old but I like being organised!

He, he.....Seriously, this is sooooo pretty so I will need to make sure I remember this one.

Here is the full recipe if anyone wants to take up the challenge before me! Only problem is that is doesn't include any instructions for the flowers......any ideas would be much appreciated. I am thinking ones you can buy would be good, I don't have the patience to pipe a gazillion little flowers on to a cake (or a steady hand for that matter......)

Friday bargain!

While in my local discount shop yesterday picking up a few things I went along the fabric aisle (as I always do) in case something surprising leaps out at me. These two jumped out at me straight away!

They were better in real life - and to make it more interesting, these two fabrics are printed hessian! Great for a beach house or playroom......and at only $8.99 a complete bargain!

Head to Spotlight to have a look! Wish I had somewhere to use these two.............I really can't buy any more fabric. I have cupboards brimming (and that is after a clean out!) with buys like this......well may just a metre for a couple of cushions. ; )

A few important things.

Well, life with a new baby in the house definately changes things! I have had to power up my organisational skills and make sure I am super effective when she is sleeping. Luckily for me, that seems to be all morning. So in between putting together beautiful (a little self belief never goes astray!) room schemes, ordering fabrics, trims and accessories for my clients, I am also doing this........

Yes. I am trying to work through all my thank you notes to people who have sent such generous gifts when our baby was born. (they are still arriving thick and fast so I may be writing for a while yet....!)

Anyway, not that it's a chore, but the job is definately made more pleasant with such fabulous personalised stationery.

Here's my little tray set up on the kitchen table so I can write one or two whenever I have a minute.

The chevron pattern is fun and the lined envelopes are a nice surprise for the recipient. Get your version or similar over at Letter Love Designs! and tell Susannah I sent you!

I am also spending ALOT of time (as previously mentioned) in my feeding chair. I do have a pleasant view however and can see both these potted trees through the window.....

A pleasant reminder that spring is well........springing!

On another note one of my fave furniture suppliers is doing a bit of fashion this season.

I will be ordering myself one of these for summer......

See - told you this bathroom was good. I especially love the arch housing the bath. As one who loves their daily bath there would be nothing nicer than climbing in here and wallowing.

I also received a note from Deirdre asking me to stop distracting her from report writing with all the pics I put up.....I will try to oblige but can't promise anything.....sorry! (he, he!)

In the meantime though, my advice to you is proceed with caution, 'cos the pics will just keep on coming! : )

I have always loved white floor and wall tiles for the bathroom but these take the biscuit don't they. They may or may not be original, but either way they have shed a whole lot of light on the tile debate for me.

My baby is not even 3 weeks old and I feel as though I have spent hours staring at various angles in the nursery. That's most likely because I have......! You know what it's like......feeding a tiny baby you get lots of sitting down and staring into space time (especially indulgent when there are no toddlers in the house too! ). My thoughts are filled with things like "should I move that book a tiny bit to the left" or "maybe I should put the cot over next to the wardrobe and put the chair on THAT side of the room instead". I have desided one thing though, and that is I do need some hooks to hang various items of clothing too cute to be folded away in the cupboard. But that's another story. I just really wanted to show you this photo I came across a while ago of a nursery. Now imagine feeding your little one and staring at that 6 times a day! You truly would never need a holiday! A bit of fun? You bet......oh and no better incentive needed to push ahead with the post baby fitness regime than to get back to sashaying around the pool in a short white kaftan!

Well, this picture represents how truly simple it is to achieve, don't you think! The red door (you know how I LOVE a coloured door......) is sublime and the additions of a simple hall table, a cleverly grouped set of frames and a classic cotton reel hat stand make sure that this first impression hits you with a bang. Thank you for all the lovely comments and congratulations I have received on the arrival of our new little pink bundle. It is so strange having a new baby in the house again after all this time, but pure bliss all the same. I must say I now have the luxury of bigger children to lend a hand when needed and no toddlers to tend to so that definately makes life easier - and so does a baby who sleeps and feeds pretty much like clockwork! Lucky - I know!

So, I am not quite sure what to show you today............

should it be the perfect Spring day we had yesterday?

or the contents of my fridge.......

(please excuse the finger marks!) which include yummy things like chicken pies and casseroles very kind friends have dropped in.

My flowers from the florist and the garden are still brightening up the house....

and we are still steadily working through all the cards and beautiful gifts we have recieved. (thank you notes are on the way shortly.......!)

Anyway, as much as I would love to sit around gazing into the eyes of my little lady its back to work today! I have a sickie at home too, and need to keep the big one and the baby at opposite ends of the house......no mean feat when he is completely head over heels with his new sister. There's so much going on in the blogging world atm, so please forgive me if I don't get around to mentioning any of it at all. Instead, I will entertain you with what I would call 'a nice kitchen' OK - I would go as far as to describe it as a very very sytlish kitchen. I love a good kitchen, especially if it isn't over done, over styled, over cupboarded (is there such a word?) and over European applianced. Does that make sense? This is just how I like'em.

A few tiles, (subway please), a bit of stainless, some black somewhere, white too and well....just some thought to a practical space, goes a long way. I think India Hicks has nailed this one - don't you? (I found this on one of my daily reads......My Notting Hill , go and have a look at the rest of the house, which btw, you can now rent)

You may (or may not ) have seen this fun picture 'doing the rounds' however to me its one of those "the more you see the more you like" ones! Firstly, a prefect example of small space dining and then....well what does one say about the art wall? It all comes together so well and is fun, fun, fun. and my favourite part?

A mish mash of fabrics. Reminds me a bit of my own fabric selection at home!

Well, the fair was OK. French Provincial was not as prevalent this year, which was a good thing. There were a few spa baths and recliner and massage chairs, however I just walked past these very fast and did not let them spoil my day! I did, however see lots of lovely colourful chairs...........

I aslo found a few other bits and pieces, but in general was not wowed by much at all. The best two bits of the day?

The good company in the car on the way there and back........ and meeting two bloggers for lunch.

We all know how a vintage map (or even a new one!) can transform a room from suburban to worldy, but have you ever considered doing this???

Me neither.

It looks way too crafty for me, however I really like the finished product. not sure how you would go about this - maybe with a whole lotta glue, scissors and a ruler. Effective, even if I won't be trying this one at home!

Which brings me to my breaking news.........

Here's a little something I DID prepare earlier.

Not sure if it was the burst of cold miserable weather that confined me to the indoors,

or the need to just get the job done quickly, but I actually covered this shade myself. I know! I am as shocked as you are. Me and craft? More like oil and water - we just don't get on. I am soo happy with the end result, but this doesn't mean I will be callling myself "Martha" any time soon. And just because all went sooo well and I was on a roll, I got the sewing machine out.

You will be pleased to know this is when I stopped. I have learnt in the past to 'quit while I am ahead' due to previous projects that have gone horribly wrong.
So, there you have it. I am quite happy with my afternoons work, however dropped the other cushions and extra shades into the workroom yesterday. That fact that the fabric is extra pretty helps too - doesn't it!

Friday seems like a good time to recap the week and tell you about anything of any interest which may have ended up in my inbox this week......

Lulu's beautiful dinnerware collection is now availalbe at Neimen Marcus. Shame for us Aussies that it's not David Jones.......

Good news is that this range IS available in Australia, and we all know how good black and whhite can look.

I also received a reminder about how it's time to start thinking about Christmas decorations....eeekkkkkk..I have so much more to consider between now and then, but seeing as they are soo pretty I will put them in my 'later file'. ( ie Novemeber! )

I pinned this picture on my Pinterest board the other day.

I love it for it's colour, but mostly for the dress and it's floral pattern.

It got me thinking..............(dangerous I know!) and that lead me to the conclusion that EVERY house should should have at least one piece of upholstered furniture covered from head to toe in flowers!

It could be a sofa......

or a chair.....

and if you can't quite committ to such a permanent bouquet...

I highly recommend these.

As well as all the other things that can happen to you, (ie you get lost, get distracted, and end up buying things you are not sure you need, just to mention a few.....) you end up making virtual rooms.

I am a huge fan of Caitlin McGauley (just glance upwards towards my blog header.......) so I was pleasantly surprised to see some more of her work on her blog recently. These works are a departurre from her usual stlye, (full of colour) but just as stunning none the less.

Look what she recently produced for a Ralph Lauren showroom...

Classic, aren't they? They were commissioned so are not for sale but I can imagine them in a boy's bedroom.

I am noticing birds at every tern. (get it? Turn....tern!)

This would have to be one of my all time favourite entrances.......a welcome of birds, beautfully placed on grass cloth. Feast your eyes on the rest......

All by the clever Tom Scheerer, who it seems, is very fond of birds.

I would love to get my hands on these specimens too......they make a true focal point.

If you can get your hands on some birds, I thoroughly recomend it. They are happy in any room in the house and of course, prefer being in flock.

You know how dead against feature walls I am? Well, I could bend the rules just this once for a feature wall in this amazing de Gourney wallpaper. A wall of handpainted birds behind my head at night would sing to me. Can't you almost hear them? As I said...pure heaven.

It's good to know also that this look is not entirely out of reach for your average Jo Bloggs.

Does anybody know anyone in the market for a beautiful navy blue, all terrain, brand new 2011 twin pram?

I received my pram from the states today.......

and I was..... cough, splutter.......incorrectly sent the twin version!!!

Rather than the costly process of sending it back, I have offered to sell it here.

Now I did my research on this.......exhaustively so......so I think its the best one out there.

......it's cold outside, and windy. We are going through wood like nobody's business (luckily we have an unlimted supply) but it's a constant challenge just keeping the fires stoked. Yep, there's nothing like an open fire for warming winter chills and for a whole lot of 'ambience'.

Yes, and I was afraid - very afraid. It all started last week when I kept getting this.......

It would be pretty if it weren't sooooo annoying.

This quickly descended into a series of messages that made me wonder exaclty where I was heading.

I couldn't access any of my files and then got the dreaded........

I don't know about you, but the blue screen just seemed like the nail in the coffin.

eekk.............

I did what any any self respecting Apple devotee would do (besides panic) and starting googling 'HELP' on my iphone.

I came across basic first aid which directed me to press a few things and end up with this.....

I had to type in slashes, symbols, spaces and then there was part 2.

Apparently my 'permissions' needed repairing.

After several minutes of sweat inducing anticipation, and a completley blank screen, guess what?

I KNOW! EXCITING......I AM A COMPUTER GEEK.
However, may I say that never, ever, ever do I want to go to that place again. Journeying into the black whole that is the domain of computer programmers and geeks is an abyss I never want to visit again.
Sorry, you were all very helpful and freindly but it was just darn waaaaay too out of my comfort zone for words.
Anyway, on to happier news.

...or I should be saying thank goodness! This fabric finally turned up on Friday after delay after delay.

It was worth wating for..........

This is just a quick snap I took before heading it off to the workroom to be made up pronto. You see this fabric is going in a nursery (not mine, just in case you thought I had falied to tell you something.......). It was perfect for a boy or girl and by no means childish. Anyway, beautiful Hattie has been born and the fabric will soom be installed in her room.

I seem to be constantly thinking about food.(don't worry, still pondering wallpaper and fabric too......) Maybe because it's cold and there's nothing like wintery comfort food. I like to cook it, I like to eat it and I of course, I like to think about it. There is nothing nicer, than as a mother, to feed your children something hearty and watch them devour it! That's why I think you should all know about this wonderful new blog, Lamb chops inc.

A friend writes it and as I sit here outside the post office waiting for another fabric parcel to arrive, I am already drooling over the pork chop recipe she recently did.

It is 9am.......see told you I think about it alot.

........and who knew you could roast broccoli?

Not me.

This is what happens to me.....I shall be thinking about marinating pork chops now for the rest of the day.

Anyway, go and have a squiz and immerse your self in her lovely country life, you won't be disappointed!

It's not all about food, as the catch line says "notes from an australian country kitchen" and we all know that an Australian country kitchen is indeed the centre of the house.

And the name.......well not sure if I should be telling you this so keep it under your hat, but I have heard her husband call her "lamb chops"............more than once!

Off to the butcher for some pork and then to get some broccoli.........

Thank you to everyone for the advice re: the kindle. I am more convinced of its goodness now thanks to your feedback, so will let you know how I proceed!

I am fast turning in to a Catherine fan. (I don't think we are allowed to call her Kate anymore, are we?) Anyway, just a quickie this morning as I am out to lunch for my birthday! Just a brief one with the husband (while he mulit - tasks and picks up parts....) but better than a toasted sandwich at home.

I love navy. It is soooo smart. In fact, I have just ordered a whole batch of navy blue towels.......more for practicality than anything else, but that's a whole 'nother story. Anyway, I think Catherine displays just the right amount of military pomp, without being too stuffy. What do you think?

A bedroom and a dilemma.

I re - pinned this seriously smart bedroom I saw while I was visting The Zhush. (as the tag line says "silly name, smart style")

Well, I think you can have whatever name you like when you come up with the goods!

Don't you think this bedroom is dreamy? I do! It's one of those unbeatable combos - orange and aqua. Its a bit like peaches and cream, bread and butter - it just works.

That lamp is a winner too. I saw one similar for sale on the MOS Marketplace in navy blue.....

which leads me to believe that you could easliy change this whole room by swappping the lamp with aforementioned blue one and adding in navy blankets. Such is the case with any room with good bones.

Now, on to my dilemma.

I need advice please.

I am keen to get a reader, an Ereader.

I thought the Kindle would be the answer, but discovered it is not back lit and its black and white.

I need colour in my life, and I need to read in the dead of night......in bed, in the dark.

Further investigation lead me to the Nook, by Barnes and Noble. this seems to fit all the criteria......

however it turns out there are problems actually accessing the books when you don't live in the US.

Can any one give me any advice or share what they have? I am trying to avoid an Ipad as I am pretty much up to date with all my Apple stuff and want something a bit more compact.

Is there a solution?

Any help, gratefully accepted.

So I am working on job for one of my clients who needs the interior of their boat revamped before they spend a year travelling on it.

Here's some inspiration I am using to get the ball rolling........

I am also going to suggest (because I like being helpful.....)

that before the maiden voyage, the mother gets herself a manicure.

because grooming is always important.

As is the purchasing of a few essential items to survive the journey...

A couple of good outfits should be packed for when it's "all hands on deck"

and not to forget the children......

.......well I think these clothes will do nicely.

I must remind myself to tell her also that when it all gets too much, there will be nothing nicer that retreating below deck (fore or aft) for a nice cup of tea.

I know she's really going to appreciate my input..........because you see in this business, it's all about going that extra nautical mile.

Samantha Pynn is a girl I can relate to. She likes colour, (and lots of it) and can take all the foibles a room has on offer and make it sing! She also does what I love doing and that is changing a room around to give it a mini facelift.

I mean

I am ALWAYS fiddling in my own house, or other peoples......

just moving a cushion here, and draaaaaaging a sofa there......

Hanging artwork and re - arranging objects. it's all part of the job.

Some may call it 'one room, two looks' but not I.

I prefer to call it, well..........something like....

'rainy day afternoon make - overs' or

'essential household management'

or in my case I could even call it...

'maintenance, mainly to avoid sitting in the office'

Call it what you like.....either way it is fun, fun, fun!

I am looking for a little something extra to go on the nursery walls and came across these.

Whilst they are a bit too fishy for a brand new baby, I am think they would make an amazing addition to any household wall. I am thinking boot room, entrance or they would look particualry fetching in an office. You will need a 'school' of them for sure............
