Dangerous Mold in Your Air Con Unit

Nowadays, most homes that you see have a central air con unit that disperses cold air throughout the entire home during hot periods of the year. Air conditioning systems have become a blessing for most home owners. Except for in one aspect. Mold.

Dangerous types of mold have always been a scary threat to homeowners, especially for those with little ones. Depending on the type of mold that is rapidly growing in your home, you could be in immediate danger. Now, some types aren’t immediately as dangerous as others but they still harbor serious side effects if not noticed and dealt with right away.

Symptoms of Mold in Air Ducts

The more common types of symptoms of mold in air ducts would have to be breathing and lung related. When dealing with mold in this way your body is not coming into direct contact with the substance. Instead, you are breathing it in slowly, for a long period of time. This can be much, much worse when not dealt with immediately.

The prolonged exposure can cause serious asthmatic problems which can end up being life long, especially for little ones. Some may even be allergic to the specific types of mold spores and mildew that is being cycled through the house. They can have serious trouble with breathing and even episodes or periods where their bodies act asthmatic even though they normally do not show signs of asthma.

The more serious cases of this have caused actual bleeding of the lungs. Some have even fell so ill that they were mistaken to have another illness like the flu or even pneumonia. This is how serious mold spores in an air con unit can be.

Air Conditioner Black Mold

When it comes to black mold in your air con unit, this can be a very scary thing to think about. Black mold has always been seen as dangerous, but to be breathing it in for prolonged periods of time is another matter.

When the condensation from the cold air starts to collect in the air ducts around your home, black mold has the perfect breeding ground. Somewhere cold, damp, and dark.

The only way to get rid of air conditioner black mold and the dangers associated with it, is to clean it. Some molds need to be cleaned with special chemicals and some can simply be cleaned with bleach water.

Cleaning Mold from Your Air Con Unit

When dealing with a potentially dangerous substance (like mold) you need to be extremely careful when cleaning it. If you need to clean your air con unit you will need a few different things to make sure that you do the job right and that you remain safe while doing so.

First, you need to make sure to wear gloves and a medical mask that covers your mouth and nose. You will also need some sort of tools to open the air con unit. Bleach and water in a spray bottle will be the next thing that you need along with a rag to wipe up any mold. We recommend also having a bucket full of bleach water to make sure that you can also clean off the rag.

Once you have the necessary tools, all you need is a little elbow grease and your air con unit will be as good as new again. We still recommend that you use a mold testing kit to test the rooms in your home to make sure that all the mold is gone and remember to always be safe.
